Greek Charter Licence

Charter in Greece

Yachts intending to commence and/or end charters in Greece must be in possession of a Greek charter licence.

Our IN-HOUSE LEGAL TEAM is available to advise and assist Owners, their advisors and Captains in relation to operating commercially in Greece.

Our highly experienced legal and accounting team, made up of both UK and Greek trained professionals, is well versed with working with managers, corporate service providers, law firms and family offices globally and have a deep understanding of the standard of professionalism required.

We strive to ensure that the Owner’s advisors are fully aware of all aspects of any proposed solutions in order to allow for a fully transparent decision making process. We intend to build longstanding relationships with our clients, offering services built around the actual needs and goals of the Owner rather than providing one-off services perhaps not always in their best interests.

OCEDA can guide Owners through the necessary process to apply for a Greek charter licence including:

  • Incorporating the appropriate structure necessary to apply for the licence depending on whether the Yacht is EU or non-EU flagged
  • Arranging for a survey of the Yacht to allow for the issuance of a Greek Foreign Commercial Yacht Inspection Certificate (PEXEPA)
  • Applying and filing for the Greek charter licence and
  • Managing all necessary filing obligations and compliances with the local authorities

In addition to our comprehensive legal service handling the incorporation of the necessary structure and issuance of the charter licence, OCEDA provides the following ongoing administrative and accounting services to maintain structure and licence in place:

  • Regulation of minimum charter days
  • Advice in relation to crew social security contributions
  • VAT registration
  • Provision of fiscal representation
  • Provision of registered address service
  • Ensuring the Owning Company is fully compliant with rules on invoicing and VAT treatment
  • Maintaining accounting books of Greek entity included in the charter licence structure
  • Preparing and submitting all VAT and annual filings

Timing wise we advise clients to obtain advice at least 3-4 months in advance to proposed charter commencement date. This is to ensure the charter licence is in place in time if the Owner decides to proceed.
